Ümit Karan (born October 1, 1976 in Germany) is a Turkish football player playing as a striker. He is currently playing for Galatasaray.
He formerly played for Gençlerbirliği S.K. and Ankaraspor.
He played in Gençlerbirliği for 5 seasons, scoring 47 goals. In season 2001/2002 he moved to Galatasaray and in his first year there he scored 14 goals. In season 2004/2005 due to his form level he was loaned to Büyükşehir Belediye Ankaraspor.
In 2005/2006 season, Galatasaray's new manager Eric Gerets wanted him back in the squad. Gerets was proven correct by choosing him, as Karan scored 16 goals in 18 matches at the start of the season. And one of his goal against Vestel Manisaspor was one of the greatest goals in football history. But early in 2006, Umit's season was cut short by a knee injury, which kept him out of the game for 6 months.
At the start of the 2006/2007 season, Umit has regained match fitness. He scored his 100th Turkish league goal on September 18, 2006, against Beşiktaş, becoming just the 30th player to reach that mark.
