THE HUT OF THE UNCLE TOM Book Review

The hut of
the Uncle TOM, it is only a work that denounces the slavery in this epoch.
There was an property in which the proprietors were: Mr. Shelb and his wife,
that had a many slaves, but they had them to good care, were educating and
treating them well, it is so they had one favorite, TOM, an elder, strong and
of very good feelings, loyalty etc., to they were estimating all him since he
was like the father of all the slaves of this property. His owners
loved like a own family to it.  It is so
one day Mr. on having turned out to be overwhelmed by his debts, Shelby had to
sell it to the slaves'' trafficker Sr. Haley, who him asked his best slaves, Tom
and to small Henri, who was the son of Elisa and Jorge also faithful slaves,
who, on having found out, felt very badly. But the misfortune of mister Shelby
was even more big, without consulting it with his wife, it decided to agree on
the dealing with the whole pain of his heart, otherwise it would lose all his
fortune. On the other hand there was in the estate a very singular hut where
all the slaves of the property were meeting and speaking about his experiences
and were doing lively meeting, “ the hut of the uncle TOM ”, this way it is as
they were saying to him tenderly. Mr. Shelby,
already could not hide any more his sadness and he was told to his wife what he
had made, she started begging, but his husband said to him that it could not
already do anything, the whole conversation there had been listened by Elisa
the slave, mother of Henrri, who became pale on having heard that they would
sell his son and TOM. It was the same night to the hut of the uncle TOM to say
to him that it should go away with her, but, on having listened to this, the Uncle
TOM could not believe it, Eliza had explained to him the reasons, and that his
owners would sell them against his wills, but TOM remained. It is so this night
Elisa took his small son and left, and does not know which would be his course. On the
following day, on having found out about the news, the owners became very sad,
after did not know which would be his destination. After Mr. Haley to come and
to find out about the news it became furious and attempt to continue them with
horses, and this way it made it, but I do not manage to reach them, since poor
Elisa, weakened and everything did not stop walking and jumped any obstacle to
save his small son, until it was found by a good partner who had it in
compassion and they took care of both. The uncle
TOM was not lucky, it was already quite decisive so that it goes away, they
dismissed it, and they all stayed with a big sorrow, his new proprietor took it
to him. It is there where he met an agreeable girl who convinced his dad so
that he was buying it, they were good persons and they were treating it well.
TOM was feeling very good in that house, the girl was an angel his name was
Evangelina but they were saying to him Eva, he was spilling sweetness, dyed a
very noble heart, it is so they were taking very well. But one day, the girl
began to fall ill and finally he died leaving a deep sorrow in the whole house,
after a time also there died the Father of the girl who also was a very good
man. TOM was sold to another gentleman who was very bad (Mr. Legree), which
gained itself the confidence of the elder, granted to him a major status in the
one that was forced to ill-treat other slaves and TOM said to the gentleman
that it could not do it, it is so the owner arranges to flog it, and this way
it did it, but TOM never thought differently, the era a very Christian man and
he would never ill-treat without cause as the owners were doing it. Mr. Legree,
more and more furious, orders to flog it, and this way a lot of suffering
happens in that house. On the
other hand, Elisa and his son were in good hands, also I manage to meet his
husband who, I always look for his freedom and flee of the owner whohim had,
to be with his wife and son.TOM, did
not cover the same luck, after a lot of time, there came a young man so-called
Jorge, son of Mr. Shelby, was in search of the uncle TOM, and on having asked
for, they said to him that it was in a quarter, on having seen it he felt very
sad and embraced it saying dear Tom I have come for you, the Uncle TOM felt
very happy, but it was already late, the it was, on the verge of to die,
because of the received maltreatments, it is so Jorge resolves to buy it to Mr.
Legre, who left that it was taking it to him because it was already not serving
him.Jorge was
very sad because, to a little time it had to bury the uncle TOM, later the news
came to the house of Mr. Shelby, where they wept for his fatal end. The young
man Jorge arranged to assemble all the slaves and his freedom proclaimed them,
they would work for if they wanted and when, he dies, they would be completely
free.

Uncle Tom Book Review

Uncle Tom’s Cabin
By Harriet Beecher Stowe

Originally published in 1852 Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin was the first book by an American to become an international bestseller, and rightly so. Set in antebellum America the story follows the life of pious and humble slave Uncle Tom through his trials and tribulations as a slave.
The story is written with a full assortment of slaves that make interesting characters, from the smart mulatto George Harris and his wife Eliza, to the reflective slave owner Augustine and the treacherous slave trader Dan. Written during the mist of the slave era the story is a significant view of slavery, albeit from a somewhat condescending source. While it is without doubt that Stowe would have been seen as something of a revolutionary in her time, with her insight into the noble, Christian, sucker that is Uncle Tom, it is obvious that she seems him as more of a brute than a true equal.
This book is more important as a backdrop for the times, and as the tool that it served when it was first published, then it is today. While it is important for us to realize the importance of its publication, it that it paved the way for other more noteworthy anti-slavery publications, and as being a catalyst for the Civil War, I would refrain from recommending this to young readers because of its underlying condescending tone. Stowe meant well, and set out what she meant to accomplish, albeit with keeping her nose in the air all the while. While she tried to tackle one sort of racism in the world, she set out to nurture an altogether different sort, patronizing in form.
What is amazing to note is the affection that many seem to have for Uncle Tom as they read this book for the first time. Many in fact have a difficult time linking the inflammatory uncle tom comments of today with the book, however more than a cursory glance at the story will yield the desired link. More so than Tom’s often shockingly humble and loyal behavior to his masters, is the underlying tone of Stowe’s work. This is what has created the Uncle Tom insults of today – that of the weak African American seeking to mimic and please white America, as Uncle Tom did with his masters.
